Real Estate Acquisition

Cornerstone Community Development Corporation serves the South Dallas and Fair Park community by addressing social needs with the goal of assisting individuals to break out of poverty and become contributing members of the community. Real estate acquisition and real estate development are essential for the Cornerstone Community Development Corporation to accomplish this task. As a result, CCDC is building partnerships to implement a three-pronged real estate strategy – acquisition, stabilization, and redevelopment.

Vacant land throughout Cornerstone's focus area presents opportunities for strategic acquisition and redevelopment aimed at achieving community impact. Cornerstone owns 13% of its target area (51 properties). Fifty-three additional properties are targeted for acquisition, representing 511,000 square feet of residential, commercial, and vacant land.

Affordable Housing

CCDC is focused on creating desirable and affordable places where people want to live, work, and play. The desire is to create affordable neighborhoods that provide sufficient incentives to existing residents and businesses, allowing them to remain in the community while attracting new residents and business. The master plan hopes to produce affordable housing, multi-use buildings, retail downstairs, residential upstairs, mix income complex, single-family dwellings and perhaps a senior complex.

Shalom Builders of Texas

Shalom Builders of Texas (SBOT) is a ministry of the Cornerstone Community Development Corporation. The marginalized Senior population is often overlooked and falls through the cracks. This segment is the last to be served, which is why SBOT is compelled to assist Seniors with minor home repairs. Currently, SBOT is focused on assisting Seniors in the Forest District of Dallas and the South Dallas Community.

The Need
Shalom Builders of Texas seeks to bring God’s Shalom (wholeness) to Seniors needing minor home repairs particularly to the uninsured, under-insured, disabled or elderly families in the South Dallas area. The needs of this identified group are tremendous due to their lack of financial support and resources.

Our Goals
Be an avenue of support for Seniors needing home repairs by mobilizing volunteers to assist homeowners with minor home repairs.

  • Provide quality work in accordance with the local building codes where the repairs are done.
  • Glorify God throughout the process of assisting Senior homeowners by being the presence of Christ and making Him known.

Cornerstone Career Center

In a groundbreaking partnership with Dallas College - North Campus and Construction Education Foundation (CEF), Cornerstone Career Center (CCC) has emerged as a beacon of hope in the Dallas/Fort Worth (D/FW) area, addressing the issues of joblessness and under-employment within minority communities. The mission and purpose of the CCC is to be the bridge that spans the gap between employers seeking skilled professionals and individuals yearning for quality job opportunities.

Training Programs: At the heart of CCC's impact is its intensive, eight-week career training programs designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to secure competitive wages, thrive in the workforce, and advance in their chosen fields. Courses cover a spectrum of industries, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, construction, forklift operations, and OSHA compliance.

Job Placement and Wraparound Services: CCC goes beyond training by ensuring a seamless transition from education to employment. Upon completing the program, participants benefit from job placement assistance and a range of wraparound services, enabling graduates to step into their new careers with confidence. These services address potential barriers to success, providing support for transportation, food, and minor emergencies.

Cornerstone Medical Clinic

The Cornerstone Medical Clinic has proved to be a welcome and much needed entity that meets the needs of the South Dallas community. The medical clinic offers the homeless population and the local community a chance to visit a medical doctor once a week. The clinic also allows the patient to remain informed of their medication. Pastor Chris Simmons says we have seen more people since the COVID-19 crisis. “People are now more worried about going to the hospital and getting sick.”

Group Lifestyle Balance Program

The Group Lifestyle Balance (GLB) Program is designed to help individuals make lifestyle changes, lose weight through healthy eating and being more physically active. These lifestyle changes have been shown to help reduce risk factors for diabetes and heart disease. The GLB program focuses on three components: nutrition, physical activity, and mental health. Our participants work towards achieving two main goals: increase physical activity to a minimum of 150 minutes a week and lose a minimum of 5 to 7% of their body weight. The GLB program provides 16 weeks of education sessions and continues for an additional 8 months of group support to help in reaching their goals. The Cornerstone GLB Program has been partnered with Baylor Scott and White Health and Wellness Center since 2019. This program is a part of a national program from the University of Pittsburgh, Diabetes Prevention Program and the Center for Disease Control, Prevent Type 2 Diabetes.
